MORGANTOWN, W.Va. – The Akron Zips women's tennis team dropped a close 4-3 match to West Virginia on Saturday afternoon at Ridgview Racquet Club in Morgantown.
Akron falls to 1-2 on the season, while West Virginia is also 1-2.
The Zips earned the doubles point as the pairs of senior Karalina Maksimava (Mogilev, Belarus)/junior Carli Knezevich (Austin, Texas) and junior Sophia Geier (Burgebrach, Germany)/junior Ariadna Blinova (Riga, Latvia) each earned wins.
At the No. 1 doubles spot, Maksimava and Knezevich posted a 6-3 win over the Mountaineers' Kaja Mrgole and Christina Jordan, whie Geier and Blinova topped WVU's Habiba Shaker and Lyn Yuen Choo by a 6-4 count.
