AKRON, Ohio - The University of Akron women's basketball team opened its 2016-17 season by defeating Walsh University, 81-70, in its lone exhibition game Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5, at James A. Rhodes Arena.
Akron shot 43.8 percent from the field for the game and scored 38 of its points in the paint. The Zips made the most of their trips to the free throw line going 17-for-25 (68.0 percent) from the charity stripe.
Senior Hannah Plybon (Orrville, Ohio) led the Akron with an 18-point and seven-rebound performance, while dishing out a game-high six assists and recording a pair of blocks.
