DEKALB, Ill. – The University of Akron volleyball team battled but fell in five sets to Northern Illinois Saturday night at the Convocation Center by scores of 18-25, 25-18, 25-18, 16-25, 12-15.
Akron (5-15, 0-8) is one of two MAC teams that have taken NIU to five sets while it is the third match this season the Zips played in all five stanzas.
After struggling to gain any rhythm in the first set, UA would go on to win sets two and three. Heading to the fourth, the Huskies came out with a vengeance posting a 21-9 lead after eight straight points.
