AKRON, Ohio -- Freshman Virshon Cotton drilled a 3-pointer with three seconds left to give Akron an 80-78 win over Bowling Green on Saturday to snap a three-game skid.

Lucas Smith snatched the offensive rebound after Jimond Ivey, who totaled 19 points, missed a trey with :25 remaining. Cotton took the next shot for the win.

The Zips (8-8, 1/3 MAC) won without Emmanuel Olojakpoke, who underwent open-heart surgery on Friday after experiencing dizzy spells earlier in the week. Akron will be without the 6-8 sophomore from Houston for the rest of the season.
