CLEVELAND, Ohio – The Akron Zips are set to open 2016-17 Mid-American Conference play with two consecutive games at James A. Rhodes Arena as part of the men's basketball conference schedule, the league office announced on Tuesday.
The Zips' MAC season opener is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 3, when Akron hosts Bowling Green for its first home conference showdown. The defending regular-season MAC champion Zips swept the 2015-16 season series against the Falcons en route to a 13-5 league mark. UA defeated BGSU in the MAC Tournament to move to 3-0 on the year and finished the season with a 26-9 overall record.
