Virginia assistant thwarts hit-and-run driver

The Virginia coaching staff should drop their Cavs nickname in favor of something more appropriate.

The Good Samaritans would work.

Running backs coach Mark Atuaia was involved in both good deeds Virginia coaches shared over the last month. He helped dig out snowed-in Charlottesville, Virginia, residents after a massive storm and he also thwarted a hit-and-run driver on a recent recruiting trip to Davie, Florida.

Atuaia recounted how the scary hit-and-run went down during Virginia’s signing-day news conference Wednesday. After finishing a home visit, he stopped at a local supermarket to pick up his go-to road trip snack: Mountain Dew and Fig Newtons.
