Coaches often spend the early part of the bowl layoff spending part of their practice time focusing on the younger, inexperienced players. The days and weeks leading up to the bowl season afford teams an opportunity to practice with an eye toward the future before turning to preparations for the season finale. Second- and third-string players receive the temporary bump up to the first team.
The first game involving an ACC team isn't until Dec. 26, so the nine conference teams in bowl games all have at least a few sessions to concentrate on the future. Here are the three ACC teams that need to make the most of those practices with an eye toward 2016.
