Season wrap: Offensive futility handicapped elite Boston College defense

Boston College coach Steve Addazio scrapped together a couple of bowl-eligible teams in his first two seasons when many expected the Eagles to struggle. He might have been able to do it a third consecutive season, but the injuries and inefficiency at quarterback handcuffed the Eagles throughout 2015. Despite finishing No. 1 in total defense nationally, Boston College ended the season 3-9 overall and winless in the ACC.

The combined record of the teams that finished with the nation's No. 1 defense from 2008-14: 83-9. Boston College had as many losses this season as those seven teams combined in each of those seven seasons.
