Miami avoids another heartbreak with improbable final-play touchdown

The band wasn’t on the field. Neither was Artie Burns’ knee.

But there was a flag. Then, there wasn’t, and all that was left was an interim coach raising his arms and a group of resilient Miami players mobbing each other.

After a nightmarish week for Miami, the Hurricanes scored on the final play of a game -- a kickoff return with eight laterals -- then endured two reviews and had the referees call off a block in the back flag to upset No. 22 Duke 30-27.

The Miami players have endured one of their tougher weeks, and there have been many of them in south Florida the last few decades.
