MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A year ago, Clemson kicker Greg Huegel was a man without a team -- an anonymous freshman going to class.
But he never quite kicked his kicking habit, believing one day that his shot to play for the Tigers would come. Huegel attended walk-on tryouts, but there were no spots open. So he kept kicking on his own four or five times a week to keep his leg fresh.
Punter Andy Teasdall and long snapper Jim Brown remembered him from tryouts. One day, they saw him practicing on his own near the indoor practice facility.
