Knicks Coaching Rumors: Top 3 Candidates As Of May 17th

The post-Steve Kerr era of Knicks coaching rumors has begun in earnest, with a new top candidate emerging in the past 48 hours for the team's vacant head coaching position -- along with one top candidate perhaps dropping out with a return to broadcasting. Who are they? We're here to show you with out Top 3 Knicks Coaching Candidates As Of May 17th:

3. Kurt Rambis

If Rambis brought back the glasses and the mustache (along with the chest hair), he may be a cult favorite to replace Mike Woodson on the sidelines at Madison Square Garden. As it stands now, Rambis is hanging on the periphery of this coaching search. This is mainly due to two reasons -- his connections with Phil Jackson as a former assistant coach of the Zen Master's, and the fact that Mark Jackson is out of the running due to his multi-year contract to return to ESPN as an in-game analyst.

2. Brian Shaw

ESPN is claiming that Brian Shaw is a candidate for the Knicks coaching search, even thought the Denver Nuggets head coach has come out and indicated that he would turn down an interview or the job if offered it. His place in the Phil Jackson coaching tree aside, Shaw also had an extreme amount of success as a player under Jackson with the Lakers. Their bond is tight, but will the Knicks be facing another letdown if they were to put all their chips on a guy who claims he's "not interested in doing anything" other than coaching the Nuggets?

1. Derek Fisher

Multiple reports are indicating that, despite the fact that's he still playing in the 2014 NBA Playoffs, Derek Fisher is the man that Jackson wants to help install the triangle offense in New York. Fisher has five championship rings from his time playing for Phil Jackson with the Lakers. Along with the fact that the Knicks reportedly are looking for a young coach that Jackson can mentor, this might be a serendipitous match if there ever was one.
