Twichell Wins Silver at FINA World Championships

WINDSOR, Ontario – Duke alumna Ashley Twichell took home a silver medal in the women’s 800-meter freestyle Thursday at the FINA World Championships (25m), held at Windsor, Canada’s WFCU Centre.

Twichell and Leah Smith earned a one-two finish for the United States, going stroke-for-stroke until the final 400 meters of the race. Smith clocked 8:10.17 in a first-place showing while Twichell touched in a personal-best 8:11.95 for second. Kiah Melverton of Australia claimed bronze with a time of 8:16.51.

Twichell also competed in Friday’s 400m freestyle preliminaries, placing ninth at 4:05.
