R.J. Barrett Named Finalist for Jerry West Award

Duke freshman RJ Barrett has been named one of five finalists for the 2019 Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Award, which was announced by the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame on Tuesday.

Barrett is the ACC’s leading scorer at 23.1 points per game, which ranks 12th nationally and third among NCAA freshmen. He is one of only two players nationally — and the only one in power conferences — averaging 20.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 4.0 assists. The four-time ACC Freshman of the Week and preseason ACC Freshman of the Year, Barrett has already set the ACC freshman record for most 20-point games (21) and is 24 points shy of Duke’s freshman scoring record.
