Duke Hall of Famer Dave Sime Passes Away

DURHAM, N.C. – Dave Sime, the 1956 ACC Athlete of the Year, Olympic silver medalist and member of the Duke Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 1976, passed away on Tuesday, January 12 in Miami Beach, Fla. He was 79.

A native of Fairlawn, N.J., Sime was a member of three varsity programs at Duke – baseball, football and track and field – before graduating in 1958 with a degree in psychology. He graduated from Duke Medical School in 1962 and went on to practice ophthalmology in Miami.

On the diamond, Sime led Duke to the ACC Championship in 1957 by batting a team-high .
