Todd Frazier thinks mixing speeds well key element in Chris Sale's success

White Sox third baseman Todd Frazier never has stared down teammate Chris Sale from the batter's box, but he has seen this season how the 6-foot-6, 180-pound left-hander poses an intimidating presence on the mound.

"Those lanky guys will get you," Frazier said. "His arm just spins every which way and the ball is 96 or 89 (mph). He's mixing speeds really well this year, and that's the sign of a great pitcher. Greg Maddux never overpowered people. He hit his spots and worked his magic."

Sox catcher Alex Avila has seen how opposing hitters have reacted up close during Sale's 9-0 start entering Tuesday night's game against the Indians, but he said he doesn't think anybody enters their at-bat against him scared, despite Sale's recent dominance.
