Before the White Sox left the winter meetings Thursday, they added one more name to their list of acquisitions.
The Sox selected Athletics right-hander Dylan Covey in the major-league portion of the Rule 5 Draft on Thursday morning.
Sox general manager Rick Hahn said the Sox had three scouts recommend for the draft Covey, who Hahn said has a four-pitch mix that includes a 95 mph fastball with some sink. Per Rule 5 draft rules, the Sox have to keep Covey on their major-league roster all year or offer him back to the A’s, and Hahn said the Sox think he has the potential to help this year in the bullpen or rotation.
