Jeff Samardzija, White Sox blown out by Yankees

Jeff Samardzija didn’t help push the White Sox closer to the American League playoff race in his first start since his club decided to hold on to him at the July 31 trade deadline.

Samardzija was torched for nine runs as the White Sox were blown out by the New York Yankees, 12-3, in front of a sellout crowd of 38,840 Sunday afternoon at U.S. Cellular Field. The loss was the White Sox third in their last four games, with the club losing those three games by a combined 22 runs.

Jacoby Ellsbury lifted Samardzija’s second pitch of the game into the left field seats for a solo home run, but the White Sox right-hander didn’t run into trouble until the fourth.
