Stuffing the All-Star ballot box a time-honored tradition

This is the column about how I fixed the baseball All-Star Game.

That's an exaggeration. I only fixed the National League starting lineup. And probably not that, but I certainly tried and I had writer's cramp for weeks to prove it.

Let's start at the beginning. Newspapers — ah, I sigh just at the name, like remembering carburetors and Polaroids — were the outlets for the fans' vote. They provided the ballots and each player's name had to be written in by hand.

Stuffing the ballot box required actual ballots. None of this digital clicking as Kansas City has done this summer.
