Pirates Prospect Watch: Carlson Reed Throws Five Shutout Without Best Stuff

Related Topics: Pittsburgh Pirates, Carlson Reed

Carlson Reed pitched five shutout innings for Bradenton on Friday night, going five innings for the first time in his career.

The Pirates drafted Reed in the fourth round last year out of West Virginia. The right-hander was a reliever during his junior year in college, but the Pirates have been stretching him out, due to the potential for three above-average pitches.

Reed threw five shutout on Friday, but didn’t have his best stuff. He walked four, showing his potential for poor control. He also didn’t have his best swing and miss stuff, only generating four whiffs and three strikeouts.
