CAYCE, S.C. – The No. 2 seeded Xavier women's tennis was crowned 2016 BIG EAST Women's Tennis Champion Sunday afternoon after beating No. 1 DePaul. 4-2, at the Cayce Tennis & Fitness Center.
This is the first BIG EAST title by a women's sports team since joining the BIG EAST in 2013.
Doubles play started off with a big win from Sydney Liggins and Amina Ismail at No. 1 singles. They beat Rebeca Mitrea and Patricia Lancranjan, 6-2.
DePaul followed with a victory at No. 3 doubles over Lauren Ghidotti and Sophia Abelson, 6-3.
