OAKLAND, Calif. --- David West, 2003 Xavier University graduate and 14-year NBA veteran, won his first NBA Championship tonight as the Golden State Warriors defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers to claim the 2017 NBA Finals 4-1.
West, named 2003 National Player of the Year by Associated Press, the United State Basketball Writers Association and Basketball Times as a Xavier senior, was drafted with the 18th pick in the first round of the 2003 NBA Draft by the New Orleans Hornets. He was named to the 2008 and 2009 NBA Western Conference All-Star Team as a member of the Hornets.
