Xavier guard Edmond Sumner's gamble paid off.
Sumner, who left two years of NCAA eligibility on the table and came out while recovering from an ACL tear, was selected early Friday morning in the NBA Draft.
His pick at No. 52 overall in the draft to the New Orleans Pelicans – Sumner will be dealt to the Indiana Pacers, according to multiple reports – was in defiance of the expectations of many who doubted his late March decision to enter the draft.
Sumner was dogged by multiple injuries and has only recently returned to some forms of exercise, including running on the treadmill.
