University of Wyoming seniors Audra DeStefano and Scott Carter both qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships with their performances at the NCAA West Prelims in Austin, Texas.
DeStefano, a native of Gillette, finished 12th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase Friday with a time of 10 minutes, 20.28 seconds. She entered the meet with the 21st-fastest time in the event.
DeStefano is the first Cowgirl to qualify for the NCAA Championships since Kate Burton qualified in the hammer throw in 2008.
Carter, meanwhile, finished seventh in the triple jump Saturday with a leap of 53 feet, 0.
