Track and field: Former Badgers athlete Evan Jager wins steeplechase at USATF outdoor championships

Former University of Wisconsin athlete Evan Jager won his sixth straight national title in the 3,000 meters steeplechase at the USATF outdoor championships on Sunday in Sacramento, California.

The 28-year-old Jager, who was the silver medalist at the 2016 Summer Olympics, crossed the line in 8 minutes, 16.88 seconds, to earn an automatic spot at next month’s IAAF world championships in London.

A two-time All-American at UW, Jager began the race in the middle of the pack but moved to second at the midway point of the race. He then took the lead with less than 800 meters.
