Badgers sports: Women's soccer opens season with win

Emily Borgmann got the University of Wisconsin women’s soccer team off on the right foot Friday night.

The junior forward scored off an assist from sophomore Payton Wesley in the 77th minute in a 1-0 season-opening win over Kentucky at McClimon Field.

Preseason All-Big Ten Conference goalkeeper Caitlyn Clem faced just five shots and needed to make just one save — grabbing a diving header by Kentucky senior Tanya Samarzich in the 47th minute — to secure the clean sheet.

The Badgers produced 12 shots, putting eight on goal against Wildcats sophomore goalkeeper Evangeline Soucie. Soucie kept Kentucky in the match with big stops in the eighth and 60th minutes.
