Wisconsin coaching rumors: Pat Narduzzi emerges as a leading candidate?

Updated 12/12/2012 3:40 pm ET

The latest Wisconsin football rumors surfacing out of Madison are that MSU defensive coordinator Pat Narduzzi is emerging as a top target for Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez.

Sources are saying that Alvarez is undecided whether or not he wants to return as coach of the Badgers or bring in someone from the outside. What has been decided, we hear, is that no current member of Bielema's staff will be promoted to head coach.

For those unfamiliar, we profile Pat Narduzzi with help from friends at BadgerBlitz.com

Pat Narduzzi

Coaching stops: Michigan State DC (2007-present), Cincinnati DC (2004-2006), Miami (Ohio) DC (2003), Northern Illinois LB (2000-2002)

Background: Narduzzi is a Mark Dantonio protege- he has been with Mark Dantonio for the last nine season as his defensive coordinator. Narduzzi's defenses have performed very well over the last two seasons, and his name has been mentioned for a few head coaching jobs over the years. Maybe this is the year he takes the next step?

Why Narduzzi: For pretty much the same reasons that Diaco might be a good fit- Narduzzi is an up-and-coming coach who is looking for a head coaching job. He has midwest ties and the Badgers could still make a big leap on the defensive side of the ball.

Why not: Narduzzi is still an unknown on the college football stage. Alvarez said he wants someone with head coaching experience, and Narduzzi doesn't check that box.
