Stuart hobbled, Melchiori on blue line against Caps tonight

The injuries are beginning to pile up for the Winnipeg Jets.

Defenceman Mark Stuart will miss tonight's game against the Washington Capitals because of a lower-body injury, head coach Paul Maurice announced after the morning skate.

Winnipeg has recalled blueliner Julian Melchiori from the Manitoba Moose, the team's AHL affiliate.

Stuart was out for the skate but left the ice early. He joins a growing list of wounded Jets that includes defenceman Tyler Myers (lower body, day to day), and forwards Drew Stafford (lower body, day to day) and Bryan Little (lower body, indefinite).

Maurice said an altered defensive group faces a big challenge in shutting down the Capitals (5-2-1).
