“It was nice to get some revenge:” Wichita State bowler wins national championship

Wichita State bowling team member Cortez Schenck used to practice bowling so much that his thumb would rip open.

“It’d be ripped open, infected, but I’d just keep practicing, practicing, practicing,” said Schenck, a freshman studying international business.

Those days of rigorous practice — bowling at least 10 games a day — landed him first place in January’s five-day United States National Amateur Bowling Championships in Las Vegas.

Schenck — who made the finals of the U.S. Amateur in 2017, but fell in the semifinal match — Schenck fired five consecutive strikes to start in the title match against defending U.
