Column: Were Tim Lester and Kevin Johns good hires?

This was inevitable, because with his talent, there was no way that Fleck would be staying in the MAC, but we just didn’t know how soon it would happen. It didn’t take long for Western to find a coach, as they hired former WMU quarterback Tim Lester to a five-year contract. Lester spent last season as the University of Purdue’s quarterback’s coach, and the two years before that at Syracuse University as their quarterback’s coach and offensive coordinator.

Lester was WMU’s starting quarterback from 1996-99, throwing for over 11,000 yards and 87 touchdown passes. He also led Western to a MAC West title in 1999.
