Jon Davis and Charlotte turned back the Hilltoppers. The 49ers guard scored 23 points, his teammates Braxton Ogbueze and Austin Ajukwa added 16 and 15, and Charlotte held off WKU for an 83-77 home victory.
The Toppers got down by as many as 14 points early in the second half before storming back to take a lead. The game was played within a basket most of the rest of the way, with the 49ers finding a way to win.
“We put ourselves in a position where we could win the game,” WKU forward Ben Lawson said. “Unfortunately it just fell away from us a little bit.
