WVU’s Brandon Knapper cleared for return after blood clot

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — West Virginia point guard Brandon Knapper, sidelined from basketball activities this summer while undergoing treatment for a blood clot, has been cleared to return, the school announced Monday.

WVMetroNews first reported Knapper’s condition on June 19, citing sources who believed his pulmonary episode was treatable.

A redshirt freshman who played at South Charleston High, Knapper remained engaged with weightlifting and conditioning aspects of the team’s offseason program while awaiting clearance to resume scrimmaging.

Knapper figures to be a crucial component of “Press Virginia” with true freshman Jordan McCabe and junior college transfer Jermaine Haley competing for point guard minutes.
