No. 24/23 West Virginia Outlasts Kansas

LAWRENCE, Kan. - Lanay Montgomery and Teana Muldrow each recorded a double-double in the No. 24/23-ranked West Virginia University women’s basketball team’s 62-51 victory over Kansas on Wednesday evening at Allen Fieldhouse.

West Virginia (15-4, 3-4) led by 12 points in the second quarter. However, Kansas (6-12, 0-7) fought back with a 13-3 run to open the third quarter and take a 35-34 lead with 4:06 left in the period. A Tynice Martin trey with 48 seconds remaining in the third, gave WVU the 39-37 go-ahead lead. The Jayhawks trimmed the game to three early in the fourth, but the Mountaineers made 12 free throws in the final 45 seconds to secure the win; giving Kansas its 25th consecutive Big 12 loss.
