Kyle Davis foregoes senior season to sign with Astros

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — Outfielder Kyle Davis, the only player to rank among the Big 12’s top 10 in home runs, hits and total bases, has signed with the Houston Astros and opted to forego his senior season at West Virginia.

Davis started a team-high 62 games this spring while batting .316 with 10 homers, 44 RBIs and a .526 slugging percentage. He homered twice during an NCAA regional win over Maryland, the Mountaineers’ first tournament appearance since 1996.

The Astros drafted Davis in the 15th round.

WVU features eight returnees with 24 starts or more, though the departures of Davis and senior first baseman Jackson Cramer — a 35th-round pick of the Washington Nationals — mean coach Randy Mazey must rebuild the middle of his lineup.
