West Ham must take EFL Cup form into tricky away fixture at Everton

West Ham advanced to the quarterfinals of the EFL Cup with a superb 2-1 win over Chelsea at the London Stadium on Wednesday night and, in the eyes of many fans, also officially opened the venue for football.

There has been a lot of nonsense spoken about the ground in Stratford, but much of it was sure to stick while the Hammers struggled. With their second home win in five days, talk of that has quickly dispersed. The new ground was buzzing under the floodlights and the atmosphere against Chelsea almost rivalled that of Upton Park.

Tension on and off the pitch built steadily around kick-off, but Cheikhou Kouyate's stunning 11th minute header felt as if it would blow the new roof off.
