Sunday's 1-0 win at Middlesbrough won't live long in the memory, but for Watford, the importance of three points far outweighs any aesthetic consideration. Middlesbrough should have seen Antonio Barragan sent off and it's hard to imagine that the visitors wouldn't have enjoyed a more comfortable afternoon had the tormented defender received a deserved second yellow card.

An away win and a first clean sheet of the season. The win propels Watford into the top half of the Premier League table, so despite the paucity of entertainment, this was a hugely valuable afternoon's work for the Hornets.
