WASHINGTON -- The Mets made a bit of a statement this weekend at Nationals Park. Even though the Nationals have won the National League East the past two seasons and entered this season as favorites to do so for a third consecutive year, the Mets all but announced they will be legitimate contenders to unseat the Nats this season.
New York completed a three-game sweep over Washington with a 6-5 victory in extra innings. As Sunday night turned into Monday morning, Yoenis Cespedes drove home the game-winning run with an RBI single in the 12th against Brandon Kintzler.
