Washington and new men’s basketball coach Mike Hopkins have come to terms on a six-year contract that’ll pay him $12.3 million.

Hopkins will earn $1.8 million in the first year of the deal and the contract includes an annual $100,000 escalator clause. It began March 19 and expires in 2023.

Former UW coach Lorenzo Romar, who was fired last week after a 15-year tenure, earned $1.7 million annually.

Hopkins would receive a $40,000 bonus if the Huskies win a Pac-12 regular-season championship. He’d collect $25,000 for a Pac-12 Tournament title and a NCAA tournament berth. Washington would pay him $20,000 for a trip to the NCAA tournament round of 32, Sweet 16 and Elite Eight.
