Matt Thurmond, who turned Washington into a national golf power during his 15 seasons as the men’s head coach, has taken the coaching job at Arizona State.
Thurmond, a Burlington native, will be replacing Tim Mickelson, brother of PGA Tour star Phil Mickelson.
Washington athletic director Jennifer Cohen announced that the Huskies will begin a national search for Thurmond.
Thurmond became the head coach in 2002 after serving one year as an assistant.
