Collision, traffic, cause 10-mile backup on northbound I-5

Northbound Interstate 5 is backed up 10 miles because of accidents and regular traffic, according to a tweet by the Seattle Department of Transportation.

A department traffic map shows heavy traffic on I-5 starting near the Georgetown neighborhood and easing up in Shoreline.

The map shows heavy traffic southbound as well, but the backup is not quite as severe.

The department recommended Highway 99 as a quicker alternative.
