Offseason question: Will moves translate into significant improvement on special teams?

It’s no secret that the Redskins need improved play at quarterback, on the offensive and defensive lines, and in the secondary if they expect to top last season’s 4-12 record. Team officials also identified special teams as a key area to address this past offseason.

Despite the hiring of coordinator Ben Kotwica, Washington’s special-teams units still ranked among the worst in the league in 2014. Inconsistent execution and a lack of big plays served as the common theme yet again.

Injuries hurt Washington on special teams last season as well. Adam Hayward and Akeem Jordan both were signed to help improve the third phase of the game, but Jordan wound up appearing in only two games, and Hayward missed five games with injury.
