Washington Capitals select Kristian Roykas Marthinsen in NHL Draft

The 2017 NHL Draft has come to an end. With just four picks going into the draft, the Washington Capitals had picks in each of the last four rounds. They spent their first three picks on defensemen, including two with high upside. In the seventh round, the Capitals added forward Kristian Roykas Marthinsen.

He’s from Norway and plays in Sweden, according to Elite Prospects. Marthinsen’s youth team is Almtuna IS. This makes three of the Capitals four picks from the 2017 draft from overseas. Marthinsen is the second prospect who plays in Sweden Washington selected this year, the first being Tobias Gessier.
