The Noon Number: Metro Malaise?

37.5 - The Capitals’ win percentage this season against the Metropolitan Division’s second-through sixth-place teams via a 6-6-4 record following Sunday’s loss to the Rangers. Breaking it down team-by-team, the Caps have gone 2-0-2 against the Penguins, 1-1-1 versus the Blue Jackets, 0-2-0 against the Rangers, 2-3-0 facing the Islanders and 1-0-1 against the Flyers (whom the Caps will face tomorrow night).

That the Caps don’t have a winning record against any of those teams is, of course, a potentially troubling trend, given the NHL’s playoff format, especially when there’s better than a 60 percent likelihood that the Caps will face one of those teams in the first round (and a much larger chance that they’ll face another, should they win that first series).
