That really was Alex Ovechkin high-fiving fans on the Verizon Center concourse

On Saturday night in St. Louis, Alex Ovechkin recorded a hat trick to become just the third player in NHL history to score at least 50 goals in a season seven times. On Sunday, Ovechkin rested.

The Capitals captain was among several healthy scratches for Washington’s meaningless regular season finale, a 2-0 loss to Anaheim at Verizon Center. Ovechkin joined owner Ted Leonsis and fellow scratches Brooks Orpik and Nicklas Backstrom on the ice for a pregame ceremony honoring Justin Williams for his 1,000th career game.

After the first period, Ovechkin roamed the press box before heading downstairs and doling out high-fives to fans on the main level concourse.
