Since the Alex Ovechkin era began in 2005-06, Washington typically gets short-term rentals prior to playoff runs, with the most successful acquisition being Michal Kempny in the 2018 Stanley Cup season, considering that they actually won that year. Even the Rasmus Sandin trade, which happened last year, is one of their better moves considering he just signed a contract and will be around for the foreseeable future.
