Scratched in three straight, Curtis Glencross returns for ‘the biggest game of my career’

Hours before returning to the Washington Capitals’ lineup for Game 7 against the New York Islanders, forward Curtis Glencross sat inside his stall, pondered the magnitude of Monday night and sounded like someone without much at stake.

“I’m excited,” he said, in a monotone that made him seem decidedly unexcited. “It’s the biggest game of my career.”

Forgive him for the muted front, though, because emotions were undoubtedly bubbling under the surface. After sitting three straight as a healthy scratch, jettisoned for defensive-zone turnovers and general inconsistencies, Glencross will replace forward Michael Latta on the fourth line, with the Capitals’ season at stake, in the first Game 7 of his NHL career.
