Noah Rubin falls in national title match

Three weeks ago, first year students at Wake Forest University began packing up their dorm rooms to return home for the summer. But one freshman in particular, Noah Rubin, earned the opportunity to extend his first year by a few weeks, claiming five NCAA Tournament victories, a Wake Forest record.

On Monday, May 25, Rubin faced Ryan Shane of Virginia at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, hopeful of finishing his first year with a national title. Unfortunately for Rubin, his 17-match winning streak was ended as Shane took the title by the score of 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-1.

Rubin, a freshman from New York City was last year’s Wimbledon junior singles champion, and had he been able to defeat Shane, would have become the first national champion in the history of Wake Forest men’s tennis.
