The quarterback question

Redshirt freshman quarterback Johnny McCrary (2) attempts a throw during the Homecoming game against Charleston Southern. The Commodores beat the Buccaneers 21-20.

In 12 regular season games, the Commodores only scored 20 offensive touchdowns. Their 17.2 points per game were more than 10 points fewer than Louisiana State University, which was second-to-last in the SEC in scoring.

The quarterback situation was the main culprit, with Vanderbilt quarterbacks ranking last in the conference in interceptions (19), touchdowns (13) and yards per attempt (6.0), as well as second-to-last in completion percentage (50.4).

Vanderbilt cycled through four quarterbacks for varying amounts of time: Patton Robinette, Stephen Rivers, Johnny McCrary and Wade Freebeck.
