Gutsy road effort not quite enough as WFC2 fall 1-0 in Sacramento

SACRAMENTO, CA A gutsy road effort from Whitecaps FC 2 (4W-11L-6D) was undone by a late penalty kick in a 1-0 defeat against Sacramento Republic FC (9W-6L-4D) at Papa Murphy’s Park on Saturday.

It was a furious start to the match, as both teams exchanged chances in the first minute of play. For the ‘Caps, Thomas Sanner slid in the box to redirect a ball in from Kadin Chung that was saved by goalkeeper Evan Newton. At the other end, Wilson Kneeshaw was just offside on a breakaway for Sacramento.

The home side threatened again in the sixth minute when Trevin Caesar found Kneeshaw in the box, firing just right of net.
