Contestant Johanna Jones, who’s from Las Vegas, had just finished performing “Wicked Game” on Monday’s (taped) episode of the ABC singing competition when she — and the judges — were surprised by the sudden appearance of her boyfriend, Matt Zavoral, of Sacramento.
“I haven't been here all week 'cause of exams, but I couldn't wait another day,” Zavoral said, as Jones looked surprised and judge Katy Perry burst into tears.
Zavoral had arranged the surprise with the show's producers. Jones and the judges didn't see it coming, but viewers did. In a pre-taped interview, Jones talked about how she wished Zavoral could be there, adding, “I don't want to get ahead of myself, but I think he's probably the one.
