Commentary: UTA budget shows a need for governance changes

I support UTA’s mass transit mission of reducing emissions and congestion, but I believe we can no longer ignore certain inconvenient facts about its future.

As a Utah Transit Authority board member, I recently cast the lone no vote on the UTA’s proposed $600 million budget for 2018. My decision merits an explanation. In a nutshell, I voted no because UTA’s current business model is unsustainable, and I could not vote to add $88.
